Ophthalmology Research Technician

 

Requirements:

  • Degree/Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card.
  • Experience:
    • Two years of experience in ophthalmology, including assisting in minor surgery.
    • Two years of previous experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) in an Ophthalmology Clinic performing refractive surgery or Refractive Surgery Clinic functions.
    • Knowledge of:
      • Ocular anatomy
      • Ophthalmic medications
      • Visual physiology and optics
      • Use and maintenance of ophthalmic instruments and testing equipment
      • Ophthalmic and medical regulations
      • Medical terminology
      • Optometric technology
      • Asepsis
      • Ocular referrals and emergency medical treatment
      • Patient transportation
      • Medical ethics
      • Medical administration
      • Surgical instruments and equipment
      • Ophthalmic injectable medications
      • Anesthetic solutions
      • Ocular disorders

Responsibilities:

  • Perform outpatient ophthalmology technician health care services for Government beneficiaries.
  • Assist ophthalmologist in surgery.
  • Perform ophthalmic clinical photography, fluorescence angiography, and electrophysiological and microbiological procedures.
  • Conduct ophthalmology clinic activities.
  • Prepare patients and serve as a special surgical assistant in all types of ophthalmic surgery.
  • Administer ophthalmic drops and ointments, apply ocular dressings, perform suture removal, and obtain eye cultures.
  • Perform general ophthalmic procedures for preoperative and postoperative patients.
  • Capture ophthalmic photographs.
  • Prepare injectable ophthalmic anesthetics and antibiotics.
