Work Requirement:

Contracted Sterile Processing Services Technicians must meet one (1) or more of the following requirements:

  • Certification: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or higher by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM/HSPA).
  • Education & Experience: Graduation from a nationally recognized CRCST training program or Operating Room Technician training program with a minimum of 2 years of documented work in the field or Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • Military Training: Graduation from a US military training program for Surgical Technicians with a minimum of 2 years of documented work experience in a Sterile Processing Service environment.
  • VA Certification: VA Level 2 certification with a minimum of 2 years of current work experience in the SPS environment.
  • Non-Certified Experience: Documented and verifiable SPS hands-on work experience for a minimum of 5 years.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply practical knowledge of asepsis, microbiology, and sterilization principles to daily work.
  • Perform and interpret steam autoclaving and chemical sterilization tests.
  • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot sterilization equipment.
  • Handle and reprocess flexible endoscopes and other reusable medical equipment.
  • Identify and replace damaged surgical instruments.
  • Understand surgical procedures, medical terminology, and aseptic techniques.
  • Meet physical demands, including prolonged standing, lifting, and working in hot and humid environments with PPE.
