Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources is excited to announce an exceptional opportunity for Surgical Technician to join our team in providing outstanding care at the VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS)

 

Requirements

  • Provides assistance to Specialty Clinic Providers and other team members during clinic hours and procedures.
  • Participates in planning and implementing clinic procedures under the general supervision of the Surgical Specialty Clinic Provider.
  • Works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide care to patients receiving treatment in the surgical specialty clinic.
  • Reports to the VA Nurse Manager or designee during the workweek.
  • On evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, reports to the Nursing Supervisor through the Charge Nurse.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take vital signs, room patients, assist with biopsies, vision and pressure checks, wound grafts, toenail clippings, sizing for compression stockings, and minor procedures.
  • Perform catheter changes and post-residual void scans.
  • Set up and maintain sterile fields with all required items for each procedure.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are available before procedures.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain procedure setups.
  • Anticipate the needs of the provider by maintaining a high level of concentration throughout procedures.
  • Utilize universal precautions and infection control policies when handling specimens, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with patient care, positioning, prepping, and obtaining supplies.
  • Handle and label specimens appropriately, place orders, and transport them to the lab.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and pre-cleaning of RME (Reusable Medical Equipment) in accordance with VISN SPS policy.
  • Enter surgical orders.
  • Communicate surgery scheduling information with patients.
  • Assist in completing surgery anesthesia questionnaires and pre-anesthesia processes.
  • Provide instructions and timelines for completing preoperative testing and appointments.
  • Ensure all preoperative testing is received and recorded before surgery.
  • Escalate abnormal test results to the ordering provider for further testing or rescheduling.
