Spectrum Healthcare Resources is excited to announce an exceptional opportunity for Out-Patient Pharmacist(s) to join our team in providing outstanding pharmaceutical care at the New Mexico VA Health Care System in Albuquerque, NM.
Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Must hold a baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
- Must have a full, current, and unrestricted pharmacist license in any U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
- Must be licensed for controlled substances and qualified to practice in any state.
- Must complete credentialing through VetPro and obtain approval from the VA Professional Standards Board, Medical Executive Board, and Medical Center Director (Allow 60 calendar days for credentialing).
- Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
- Must complete required ACLS, BLS, CPRS, and VA Mandatory training.
- Must have annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) or Certified Education Units (CEUs) recognized by ACPE.
- Must have a negative tuberculosis (PPD) test and proof of Rubella immunization.
- Must comply with OSHA bloodborne pathogen safety regulations and Hepatitis B vaccination (optional but recommended).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Dispense prescription medications and provide patient education on proper medication use.
- Advise physicians and healthcare providers on medication selection, dosages, interactions, and side effects.
- Evaluate provider medication orders for pharmacologic duplications, incompatibilities, side effects, drug-food, and drug-drug interactions.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for receiving, safeguarding, and issuing controlled drugs.
- Maintain strict security and inventory control of controlled substances.
- Follow VA Handbook 1108.01 regarding medication security and handling.
- Ensure compliance with USP 797 & USP 800 for aseptic technique and compounding sterile products.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic patient medical records (VISTA/CPRS).
- Document all medication orders, interactions, and patient counseling sessions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and analyze patient outcomes.
- Report any medication-related complications to the Pharmacy Service Line Chief.
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
Work Hours & Shifts:
- The pharmacy operates 24/7, 365 days per year.
- Shifts may be 8-12 hours with weekend and holiday coverage required.
- Staff must adhere to minimum 12-hour rest periods between shifts.
