Phlebotomist

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for a Phlebotomist at the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Chicago, IL. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide exceptional care to our nation’s veterans in a supportive and mission-driven environment.

We are seeking a reliable, experienced, and patient-focused professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working early mornings and weekends, and will demonstrate a high level of clinical proficiency and professionalism.

Position Details:

• Full-Time Schedule: 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM

• Part-Time Schedule: 5:30 AM – 8:30 AM

• Weekend availability is required

• Federal healthcare setting – no billing or insurance hassles

• Potential to work with a stable, well-respected veteran population

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform phlebotomy procedures with minimal supervision, ensuring accurate patient identification and specimen integrity.

• Collect blood specimens for laboratory analysis, including routine draws, blood cultures, and compatibility testing.

• Use clinical judgment to understand a wide array of laboratory tests and specimen handling requirements.

• Accession and receive specimens using the VA Laboratory Information System (LIS) for internal and reference laboratory testing.

• Ensure proper labeling, processing, and transportation of specimens in accordance with established protocols.

• Instruct patients on the proper procedures for at-home collections such as 24-hour urine and other specialty specimens.

• Maintain compliance with infection control and safety standards at all times.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program preferred

• National certification (ASCP, NHA, etc.) is strongly preferred

• Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting

• Familiarity with the VA LIS system is a plus

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to work independently and maintain high accuracy under pressure

• Must be willing and available to work early mornings and weekends
