Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician provides technical support to licensed pharmacists within the Orlando VA Healthcare System, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution to Veterans. This position supports both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations across multiple VA facilities and requires strict adherence to federal regulations, VA policies, and established pharmacy procedures.
Duty Locations
The selected candidate may be assigned to one or more of the following Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities:
- Orlando VA Medical Center – Orlando, FL
- Lake Baldwin VA Clinic – Orlando, FL
- Viera VA Clinic – Viera, FL
- Daytona Beach VA Clinic – Daytona Beach, FL
Note: Travel between duty locations may be required based on operational needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Receive, interpret, process, and fill prescription orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
- Utilize VA-approved pharmacy systems and automated dispensing equipment
- Enter, verify, and update patient prescription information in electronic health records
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels, including medication storage, restocking, and expiration date monitoring
- Support pharmacy operations in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Identify and report discrepancies, malfunctions, or workflow issues to supervisory personnel
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal regulations, VA directives, and facility policies
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and VA guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Certification: Active and current CPhT (PTCB) or ExCPT (NHA)
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of recent pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare setting
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of pharmacy operations, medications, and dosage forms
- Familiarity with pharmacy systems and automated dispensing technology
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment
- Effective organizational and communication skills
Conditions of Employment
- Must successfully pass a federal background investigation and credentialing process
- Must comply with all VA onboarding and security requirements
- Must not be listed on the OIG exclusion list
- Must be eligible to work on a federal contract
- Ability to work at multiple locations as required
