Spectrum has an opportunity for a civilian Urgent Care Registered Nurse at the Dumfries Health Center in Dumfries, Virginia.  We provide out-patient clinic services for enlisted and retired military personnel in association with Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital   This position will work in collaboration with the healthcare team, patient and family to promote patient health through delivery of professional nursing care appropriate to patient’s age and condition as documented in the nursing and medical plans of care in accordance with evidence-based nursing and patient-care practice standards, Military Health System goals, values and regulatory standards.  Functions as a health and safety leader to ensure patients receive high quality, patient-centered care.   Essential Functions: - Oversee the functions of the Urgent Care Medical Assistant to include competency assessment and scheduling. - Performs assessment and triage of walk-in patients per protocol. - Handles urgent/emergency situations. Utilizes the nursing process to coordinate and provide patient care. - Provides safe, accurate and clinically competent direct care to patients and families, recognizing patient needs. - Seeks appropriate assistance and uses clinic resources to enhance clinical decision-making. - Prepares patients for examinations. Obtains health history information, takes accurate vital signs, and reviews medications. - Documents plan of care. Documents phone calls per protocol. - Assists with office procedures. Administers treatments and performs diagnostic testing as ordered by the provider. - Administers injections and medications. Start IV’s, maintain and administer IV fluids/meds as ordered by provider. - Performs patient intake: vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medication lists, and other interventions as required. - Intervenes in complex patient and family situations. - Utilizes the nursing process based on research and evidence-based outcomes. - Under supervision of the practitioner, inform patients of clinical results, to include lab, radiology, and other studies and manage secure messaging communication. - Ensure that the patient or family understands follow-up and referral information.  - Must have demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing skills and effective English (written and verbal) communication skills. The job qualifications for this position are as follows: - An understanding of medical and clinic settings. - Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members. - Demonstrated competence email and written communication. - Availability to work a schedule within 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM weekdays, and 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM Saturdays. - Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. - RN License required; Current state nursing licenses or RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact - At least 2-years’ experience as an Urgent Care RN. - Nursing Diploma or Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. - Excellent customer service skills. Prepares and administers prescribed medications by oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, IV, and inhalation routes. Responsible for ensuring safe medication administration. Recognizes emergency situations and initiates appropriate actions. Starts IVs and initiates CPR. Maintains records and ensures appropriate documentation of all nursing care given in the clinic, documents medications and any patient reaction. - Assist with ongoing inspection of patient care areas to insure comfortable, orderly, clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Assists with the following: Cleaning of instruments used for procedures; cleaning of rooms post exam procedure; removal and disposal of soiled and contaminated material/disinfecting area, changing linen; washing and assembling of instruments for sterilization; replenishing supplies and equipment as needed; checking expiration dates; performing general maintenance duties/cleaning utility rooms.
